Summary: 

Mobile wireless communication; also called mobile ad hoc networks; does not have a fixed infrastructure or centralized administration. Each host in the mobile ad hoc network communicates with the other hosts via packet radios to form a temporary network its infrastructure varies according to the hosts’ mobility. The way of routing information in ad hoc networks requires special attention where the nodes operate by batteries which are scare power resources, this requires the routes in the ad hoc network to be “multihop” to adapt to the limited radio propagation range of wireless devices. In wireless ad hoc networks communication sessions may be unicast (one-to-one), multicast (one-to-many), broadcast (oneto- all) or group communication (many-to-many). The rise in the number of mobile users has led to a wide variety of applications to become available. Unicast and Multicast ad hoc networks are the focus in this thesis. Where the main objectives is to propose and implement unicast and multicast routing protocols for multimedia wireless ad hoc networks. such protocols should take into consideration improving network performance as well as reducing energy consumption.

The main contributions of this thesis are the following:

1- Proposing an Energy. Efficient Dynamic routing protocol for unicast wireless ad hoc networks, called EED protocol

2- Implementing EED protocol and evaluating its performance in comparison with other existing protocols

3- Proposing an Energy Adaptable Distance Aware routing protocol for multicast wireless ad hoc networks, called EADARP protocol

4- Implementing EADARP protocol and evaluating its performance in comparison with other existing protocols
