On October 12, 2012, Eng. Farid Surial ATIYA (EECE Alumni 1980) passed away after leading a life that was distinct in many ways.

Farid ATIYA (28/9/1957 – 12/10/2012) is the son of Professor Fuad Surial Atiya and has graduated from the Faculty of Engineering, Department of Electronics and Electrical Communications Engineering (EECE) in 1980. He obtained the M.S. degree in electrical engineering from Columbia University in 1983. Subsequently, he held positions at Ericsson, Sweden, and AT&T Egypt. In the late eighties, he embarked on the business path. He started Cairo Electronics Co., which was manufacturing car stereos (the Marvel brand). In the mid nineties he started Farid Atiya Press Co, and since then he has been one of the leading people in the publishing world in Egypt. His company specializes in the production, printing, publication, and marketing of books covering the culture and ancient history of Egypt. It is an international level publisher that runs the entire editing and printing process, including writing, photography, printing, marketing, and distribution. He has authored over thirty books on the history, archeology, museums, and monuments of Egypt, on the Red Sea, and on the oases of Egypt. Many of his books are available in up to seven languages. His company also operates some book outlets in Cairo, Luxor, and the Red Sea. His work contributed significantly to the advancement of tourism in Egypt through awareness and exposure of his books abroad.

All members of the EECE Department would like to express their deep condolences to Professor Fuad Surial ATIYA (EECE Professor Emeritus and EECE Alumni 1945), to Professor Amir ATIYA (EECE Alumni 1982), to his mother, his wife and his son for their great loss. We pray to God that HE Almighty will grant them patience and strength to endure the passing away of Eng. Farid ATIYA.
