The following obituary has been prepared by Dr. Mohsen MAHROUS - Assistant Professor at EECE - on the memory of our colleague, Eng. Gamal ABD-EL-HAMID, who passed away on 4th December 1994:

Gamal was born in Cairo on May 25, 1966. He received the BSc degree in Electronics and Electrical Communications Engineering from Cairo University in July 1988 with a rate of appreciation Distinction with Honors degree, and was ranked the 4th of his graduates in EECE class 1988. He was appointed as a teaching assistant in the EECE Department in October 1988. He received the MSc degree in Electromagnetic Waves Engineering, and his thesis was supervised by our late Professor Mostafa Nour El-Din Fahmy may Allah have mercy upon him. In January 1992, Gamal joined the Computer Vision and Image Processing Group in the Computer Science Department at Saskatchewan University, Canada, to pursue his PhD studies. In December 1993, Gamal became a PhD Candidate after passing the PhD Comprehensive exam. 

Gamal passed away in a tragic accident on Rajab 1, 1415 H (December 4, 1994); to Allah we belong, and to Him we shall all return, and he is remembered for his kind, cheerful, decent, and patient character that has been role model and soure of inspiration by all those who have been gifted from Allah, The Most Loving, The Most Merciful, to work with him. 

May Allah accept Gamal among His sincere worshippers, and gather us on tribunes of light in the shades of His Throne on the Day of Judgement by His Grace and Mercy.
