Summary:

In this dissertation we develop a method to construct composite right/left-handed
transmission line using coupled lines. The CRLH unit cell was achieved by
applying the procedure on specific three coupled lines configurations. The first
realization was done using broadside coupled coplanar waveguide. The second
realization was done using coupled microstrip lines with slotted ground. We
achieved smaller size and easier fabrication process. The third realization was
done using coupled microstrip lines with floating conductor at the ground plane.
The performance of these lines, are demonstrated by both simulated and
measured results. We construct a leaky wave antenna with superior properties.
The designed antenna is a dominant mode leaky wave antenna with scanning
properties from the backward to endfire scanning capabilities. The third
realization was chosen for the design of the antenna.
